E-business and e-commerce induce - beside other influencing factors - rapid changes of economic and social processes. The e-commerce group takes a broad view at these processes: it analysis enterprises and their processes as well as the entire market, and it is active in creating ideas and solutions that meet the demands of the respective stakeholders.
The group follows several research streams: In the B2B domain business (processes) modeling and consequently the definition, specification and implementation of e-business systems are at the focus of its research. Here it combines semantic web research with a service-oriented view; with emphasis on collaborative business processes. Services are understood not primarily as web services, but as economic exchange activities. Another stream of research deals with ontology engineering & information integration (of different information “providers”). And we started with activities in the domain of “Web science” focusing at network analysis and content / text mining. In the B2C domain the group looks at new visual interaction paradigms (e.g., applying to a virtual museum) as well as mobile applications. Here special emphasis is given to application domains such as e-tourism.
