Open topics for Master Theses

Open topics

Offered Master Thesis topics by Hannes Werthner:
  • Web-based innovation idea auctioning platform The scope of this thesis is the design and implementation of an auctioning plattform for innovation ideas - to be used within i2c (informatics innovation center). This is also based on a review of state-of-the-art in order to identify the "best" matching mechanism as well as software sources (in the case there is open source). The system will be used in real world scenarios.

  • Text mining for economic news websites and blogs The scope of this work is to develop and implement an efficient combination of natural language processing techniques for a dataset of crawled economic news from several websites and blogs. Additionally, several clustering algorithms for topic identification should be implemented and compared on this dataset. For an overview of challenges and possible solution approaches please refer to the paper “Text mining for news and blogs analysis” by Berendt in the Encyclopedia of Machine Learning.

  • Mining graph evolution rules in online media Considering rich content and complex structure of the Web, this work is intended to implement and to evaluate a novel algorithm to determine rules according to which information flows and changes on the Web. Analysis of scalability, time complexity and space requirements of the algorithm is to be provided as well as any suggestions for further improvement of such. The dataset for evaluation consists of data crawled from online media. To get a better understanding of the general concepts please refer to the paper “Learning and predicting the evolution of social networks” by Bringmann et al. in the IEEE Intelligent Systems.

Offered Master Thesis topics by Marco Zapletal:
  • Dynamics NAV Add-On The scope of this thesis is the definition and implementation of an Add-On for Microsoft Dynamics NAV within in the context of the Project ERPEL (http://erpel.at). Requirements: C/AL, C/SIDE, SOA

  • Digital Signatures for e-Invoicing The scope of this thesis is (i) to give an overview of digital signatures in the context of electronic business document exchanges from a legal as well as from a technical perspective and (ii) the implementation of module that verifies/signs different types of business document formats (EDI, XM, PDF). Requirements: Thorough Java skills, security background

  • Open-source Enterprise Application Integration The scope of this thesis is to design/implement an EAI prototype using Open Source Technologies. Thorough skills in Java, Apache Camel and Apache ActiveMQ are required.
Offered Master Thesis topics by Prof. Dorn:
  • TechScreen Portal
  • In this thesis a portal for TechScreen (https://server.techscreen.at) shall be designed and developed based on the open source portal software Liferay (http://www.liferay.com/) . The main design issues are the visibility of objects for different organisations and user with different privileges and the capability of multi-language management.
